Advising Information
Undergraduate Advising
The Department of Biological Sciences considers academic advising to be a cooperative effort between students and their advisors. Academic advisors assist undergraduate students in many facets of their academic planning and progression at UNC Charlotte. Ultimately, students are responsible for managing their academic schedules, adhering to all deadlines set by the University, as indicated on the Academic Calendar, and meeting progression and degree requirements as specified in the UNC Charlotte Undergraduate Catalog.
Students must keep the following points in mind during their undergraduate program of study:
- Students must pass a minimum of 120 semester hours (total) to receive an undergraduate degree from UNC Charlotte. There are no exceptions to this rule.
- Students must achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater and a GPA of 2.0 in their major/minor to graduate.
- It is recommended that all biology majors/minors, with or without an Advising Hold, consult their academic advisor before registering for courses each term.
- Students with an Advising Hold cannot register for courses without first consulting their advisor, who will then authorize the removal of the advising hold.
- Students planning to pursue careers in pharmacy, dentistry, medicine, or other health-related graduate schools should consult the Pre-Health Professions Advising Office in addition to their Biology advisor.
*Additional Advising Information is available on the Klein College of Science Advising website.
