Dr. Andrew Truman is recipient of the 2024 Outstanding Biological Sciences Faculty Research Award
The annual outstanding biological sciences faculty research award is aimed to recognize significant achievements of faculty members in the Department of Biological Sciences. The winner of this award will receive an award plaque and one-time $2,000 research stipend. Dr. Andrew Truman is selected by the Departmental Research Committee as the recipient of the 2024 Outstanding Biological Sciences Faculty Research Award.
Dr. Truman received his PhD degree from University College London in 2005. After a couple of postdoc fellowship and training (Boston University, Johns Hopkins University, and University of Chicago), Dr. Truman joined our faculty at UNC Charlotte as tenure-track Assistant Professor in 2015. Dr. Truman has been promoted to Full Professor in 2024. Dr. Truman is a leader in the field of chaperone biology having published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers in top-tier journals with more than 2,500 citations. Dr. Truman is a Fellow of the Cell Stress Society and was recognized as the Feruccio Ritossa Award by the Cell Stress Society in 2022. Dr. Truman currently has $4.6M of external funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as PI or co-investigator. Importantly, he is the only faculty member at UNC Charlotte who is funded by two prestigious NIH R01s as PI.
