Two Biological Sciences graduates named 2025 GOLD Alumni Network Top 10 Under 10

Mukulika Bose earned her PhD under the mentorship of Dr. Pinku Mukherjee and is currently a
research associate at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Jeffrey Powell earned his MS under the
mentorship of Dr. Richard Chi working with the Helping Hands Project to 3 D print prosthetic
hands for pediatric patients. He then earned his MD at Wake Forest Medical School, and is now
an eye surgeon resident at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist. The 10 Under 10 Award recognizes
UNC Charlotte alumni who have graduated within the past ten years. Top candidates who
receive consideration are not only shaping what’s next in their professional careers, but are also
heavily involved in the community through volunteerism and philanthropy, creating an impact on
their communities. Dr Jeff Powell states “I must thank Dr. Chi for providing the opportunity that
lead to this award. He has been an excellent academic mentor and non-profit collaborator. He
was vital in The Helping Hand Project expanding its impact and he is the organization’s
standard for faculty leadership at the university chapters. UNC Charlotte, Dr. Chi and the
Department of Biological Sciences were instrumental in my path to medicine and my
development as a researcher. I hope that through my engagement with this award programs
help highlight the department and motivate other UNC Charlotte students to follow a similar
path.”
